Police investigating two separate racial attacks are trawling through hours of CCTV footage in a bid to track down the thugs.

In the first incident about 40 Middlesbrough football fans punched and kicked a group of Asian teenagers in Cornwall Road, Bradford, minutes before the start of Saturday's match at Valley Parade.

Two hours later, a group of 12 Asians, aged between 21 and 24, attacked two white brothers as they walked through Westgate in Bradford city centre.

Steven Jackson, 28, and his brother Karl, 26, were taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary after the incident at about 5.15pm.

Karl was discharged with two broken toes but Steven, a self-employed sandblaster, was left unconscious for four hours and kept in for observation overnight after suffering two fractures to his left cheek. He also needed stitches to cuts above his eyes.

Mr Jackson, who left the army last year after ten years' service and is married with four children, said: "I know that there was some banter with a group of Asians after they pushed past us and then all of a sudden they were all around us.

"The next thing I remember is waking up in hospital. I just didn't expect it really."

Detective Inspector Chris Binns, who is investigating the incident, said: "We are treating the city centre attack as a racial attack.

"We would like to talk to anyone who saw the attack or who saw this group of Asian males in the city centre prior to the attack."

He is also working with police in Teesside to track down the Middlesbrough fans who attacked the Asian teenagers.

One of the victims, Abdul Rahman, 16, of Thurnscoe Road, Bradford, and police tried to identify his attackers at Valley Parade after the match but with no success.

Det Insp Binns added: "The Middlesbrough fans were heard to chant racial abuse while punching these lads.

"We are studying CCTV footage from the game and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the attack to contact us."

One of the fans was said to be of medium build, balding, with tattoos on both arms, wearing a gold earring in his left ear.

Anyone with information on either attack should ring the Bradford Police helpdesk on (01274) 376459.
