When Martin Riley was brought on as Gomersal's seventh bowler he could not have predicted the dramatic impact he would have on his side's Priestley Shield first round tie against Windhill.

In 3.4 overs he returned the amazing figures of eight for four and Windhill tumbled from 126 for two to 132 all out.

Holder Gomersal then sealed their passage to the second round with openers Graham Hilton (64 not out) and Steve Pollard (64 not out) sharing an unbroken stand of 137 to secure a ten-wicket win.

If the bowling honours belonged to Riley then the batting plaudits most definitely went to East Bierley's opener Andy Dobson.

He blasted an unbeaten 155 which enabled his side to pile up a daunting score of 315 for four against Drighlington.

Dobson struck five sixes and 17 fours and his efforts were backed up by John Glover who claimed five for seven as the nine men of Drighlington were dismissed for 73.

Manningham Mills opener Andrew West was another batsman in top form.

His score of 123 not out steered Mills to a total of 241 for six which proved far too much for Saltaire who capitulated for 75 in reply to lose by 166 runs.

Peter Jackson of Spen Victoria was the day's third century maker.

Jackson struck 113 as his side made 190 for seven and followed up with four for 33 as Bradford & Bingley were dismissed for 90.

Opening bowler Andrew Ralph took six for 21 as Undercliffe defeated Esholt by four-wickets.

Esholt were dismissed for just 78 and despite a few alarms, Undercliffe reached their target.

Last year's beaten finalists Pudsey Congs had a comfortable 94-run success against Keighley.

Philip Higgins top scored for Congs in their innings of 226 for six and Keighley were dismissed for 132.

Opener Ben Hyman made an unbeaten 72 as Salts snatched a four-wicket win against Hanging Heaton off the last ball.

Defeat was a particularly bitter blow for Hanging Heaton opener Leigh Manton. He had batted extremely well to make an unbeaten 89 which took his side to a total of 178 for six.

Newcomers Woodlands had little trouble securing victory on their debut in the competition.

They bowled out Bowling Old Lane for a disappointing total of 60 before racing to a nine-wicket success.
