A man attacked and robbed by an armed gang said he feared for his life if he had tried to fight back.

Stephen Hardy, 34, was beaten up by five or six Asian men who got out of two parked cars as he walked past them at 1.25am on Monday.

The gang pinned him up against a wall opposite the Black Bull pub in Halifax Road, Liversedge, and rifled through his pockets.

"One of the men was waving a handgun around in the car and laughing, and one had a knife to my throat," said Mr Hardy, from Batley.

"I was punched in the face and kicked in the back, all for £5 and my mobile phone.

"I was just stunned and hoping they would get off me. I thought if I struggled I would end up with the knife in my throat or stomach."

Police said the men escaped in a black Honda and a red Nissan Micra.

One of the men was slim, about 5ft 6ins, in his early 20s, with a moustache, black collar-length hair and wearing a black jacket and jeans.

A second man was 6ft, of medium build, with longish black hair and a full beard.

A third was described as small, about 20, clean shaven, wearing a denim jacket and a black leather pork-pie hat. A fourth man was wearing a white button-down shirt and Adidas trainers.

Police ask anyone who saw the attack to call them on 0845 6060 606.
