POSITIVE attitudes and good leadership were picked out for special mention by Ofsted inspectors at Rawdon's St Peter's C of E Primary school.

The Government inspectors also praised the school's good relationship with parents and pupils' high standards of achievement in core areas.

More than 80 per cent of teaching at the school was good or better while 35 per cent of teaching was regarded as excellent. No teaching was regarded as unsatisfactory.

Special mention was made of support staff and of the provision in reception classes.

Brian Scholes, head teacher, said: "It is gratifying to receive a report which reflects so positively on everyone who is involved with the school.

"I am very proud of the standards which continue to be set by our pupils and appreciative of the hard work of all the staff, parents, governors and others who have contributed to the success of the school. We aim to continue to build on our existing achievements to provide our pupils with the very best opportunities to realise their potential, within an atmosphere which promotes caring and self-respect."

And Mark Birkin, chairman of governors, said: "I am delighted for all the hard working staff at our school to have received such a strong vote of confidence from Ofsted inspectors.

"The report clearly endorses the enormous progress achieved by the school in recent years and the exceptional standards which are now being achieved."
