Baildon Trinity..........1
Barwick Rangers.......1
(Barwick win 4-3 on pens)
In a poor first-half to this West Yorkshire Division One League Cup final at Whitkirk, it was Barwick who made most of the attacking play. Their efforts were rewarded when Baildon failed to clear a far post corner in the 30th minute.
The Barwick number 10 was allowed to swivel in the six-yard box before somehow drilling the ball through four Baildon defenders into the bottom corner.
Baildon's best effort of the half came soon after the goal when Neil Barlow headed against the bar from a deep Nick James corner.
Harsh words were said at half-time as the Baildon players were reminded that they were actually in a cup final.
Baildon were a different side in the second-half and had all the attacking play, reducing Barwick to long range shots on goal. It was a masterful substitution by manager Karl Zanft that led to the Baildon equaliser.
Centre-forward Chris Marsden was substituted and in his place Andy Haran was moved up front from the central defence. Within minutes the scores were equal thanks to a neat finish by Andy Haran after being put clean through.
Despite all the Baildon pressure, however, extra-time was needed.
There was no further score in extra-time, although Simon Dawson went close with a header and Nick James forced a magnificent save from the Barwick goalkeeper. The game went into a penalty shoot out.
Andy Haran stepped up first to give Baildon the advantage which was levelled by Barwick. Up next was Nick James who regained the lead for Baildon. Again Barwick squared things up. Unfortunately for Baildon, Danny Jowett struck a post and with Barwick scoring their third, Baildon had fallen behind. Mick Haran then levelled the scoring and further delight for Baildon came when their goalkeeper Danny Milner saved diving to his right.
Delight soon turned to despair for Baildon as Simon Dawson shot wide, handing the chance of victory to Barwick, who duly scored the winner.
Bolton Woods U-15s..........6
Baildon Trinity U-15s......1
While Bolton Woods eventually won this Craven Junior Division One League Cup quarter-final comfortably, the scoreline bore no relation to how the game went.
Indeed, with less than 15 minutes to go, the scoreline was 2-1 and Baildon were looking for the equaliser.
However, in doing so, they left themselves open and, coupled with some defensive errors and the sharpness of Woods' striker Adam Tomlinson (who got a hat-trick), Baildon shipped water right at the death.
In a competitive first-half, Bolton Woods had the edge, going ahead midway through the half and adding a second right on half-time.
In the second-half, prompted by some skilful running by Adam Edwards, who caused the Bolton Woods defence an enormous amount of trouble, and driven forward by the tireless work of Andy Padgett and Simon Malyon, Baildon got themselves back in the game.
Chris Reardon forced his way into a shooting position in the penalty area and gave the Woods 'keeper no chance with a well struck shot.
Reardon then had a header saved as Baildon forced a number of corners. But in the dying minutes, the defence was exposed by the pace of Tomlinson and suddenly the game changed.
For Baildon, forward James Brown, who had been pressed into service as a centre-back, had a tremendous match against his old team while Edwards deservedly took the match point.
