Aireborough ..... 31
Sheffield Medics 21
IN the first of their outstanding league games Aireborough finally overcame a lively student team at Nunroyd Park.
Struggling throughout with the opposition's mobile backs who constantly stretched their defence Aireborough had to rely on their superior scrummaging with the front row of Chris Dine, Tim Baxter and Dave Greenwood delivering the goods.
This resulted in touch downs from centres Mike Neild and James Kinghorn and flanker Jon Rhodes, with two conversions from scrum half Gwyn Jones. This, however, did not deter the visitors whose backs ran in three tries to leave Aireborough 19-21 down with only 15 minutes remaining.
Digging deep Aireborough struck back as full-back Luke Kendall and winger Matt Graves, recently voted the most improved Player of the Year, scored tries and with a further conversion from Gwyn Jones the game was safe. Aireborough play their final league game on Saturday when they entertain Wickersley at Nunroyd Park.
