The withdrawal of rail services from Ilkley to Bradford and Leeds would have a calamitous effect both on the many who used them, and on the city centres which would have great difficult in accomodating the resulting traffic, says County Coun H. V. Haddrill of Ilkley. "This must at all times be a very considerable factor in arriving at any decision in the future," he added.

Early sunshine in Bradford today acted like a magnet to thousands. Although the weather men could only forecast "bright intervals", many people were prepared to take a chancy trip to the coast. There were crowds at Exchange Station, one excursion for ever-popular Blackpool pulling out full, leaving a lengthy queue for the next train. Traffic was normal at the West Yorkshire bus station at Chester Street, while Forster Square station at times was quieter than on a normal day.
