A hospital patient was killed instantly when he was struck by a train at a crossing, an inquest jury heard.
Graham Cookson, 64, was being treated for anxiety and depression at Airedale General Hospital, near Keighley, when he stepped into the path of an oncoming train in February at the end of Thornhill Road in Steeton.
Train driver Andrew Sessford told Bradford Coroner's Court how he was travelling from 45-50mph towards Skipton when he saw a man stride onto the middle of the track.
He said: "I blew my horn and he never moved. He took three strides out, right into the middle of the rails. He was facing me the whole time.
"It did not look as though he was trying to get across the track. He was looking right at me."
A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Cookson, of Birchwood Drive, Utley, Keighley, died from multiple injuries.
The jury returned a suicide verdict.
