Otley Under-13s finished off their long season with a fine victory over Beverley in the Yorkshire Plate final by 38-0. Right from the first whistle Otley put Beverley under considerable pressure, resulting in an early score that set the scene for the remainder of the match.
Beverley competed as best they could but they were overpowered in the forwards and outpaced in the backs. Otley scored six tries in all, two from their powerful No 8 Thomas Hebditch, two from their speedy winger Sean Kennedy and one each from Scott Dixon (centre) and Simon Hill (second row), captain Adam Weaving added four conversions.
As the season has progressed Otley have continued to improve their team play, combining effectively the wealth of individual talent that exists across the whole squad to play some outstanding running rugby. Otley progressed to the final with comfortable wins over Sandal, Keighley and a hard fought 14-0 victory over York in the semi-final.
Player-of-the-Year awards went to: Thomas Hebditch (best forward) and Adam Weaving (best back); Most Improved Player went to Jonathan Edwards; Clubmen-of-the-Year went to George Mason and Dominic Henry; and Players' Player went to Thomas Hebditch.
Representative honours went to Chris Mobbs and Thomas Hebditch, who played for the successful Yorkshire Central side that recently won the district festival; and David Cooke and Thomas Farrer, who played in the winning side in the recent district development seven-a-side festival.
The squad can look forward to another very competitive season next year.
