Membership is
growing at
Bracken Ghyll
SINCE beginning its drive for new members Addingham Bracken Ghyll Golf Club has had over 30 applications, many of whom are already approved.
The club, which is expanding its course to 18 holes on June 30 this year, is rapidly becoming known for the quality of the course and its ability to remain open during poor weather conditions.
"Many of the people joining or expressing interest are doing so because the course has had the ability to endure the recent extreme weather conditions," said Robert Stead, chairman of the Greens Committee.
"This year we have been open when many others were forced to close," he added.
Two years ago Bracken Ghyll became a member-run club and since that time has moved from strength to strength.
"The members took on a huge task those two short years ago," said Terry Smith, the President.
"Not only have we been successful in running the club, the course will be opening to 18 holes on schedule this June."
Knowing the 18-hole course would provide the ability to cater for more members without congestion, Bracken Ghyll began its recent campaign to attract new members at the start of this year.
Although the aim is to increase the membership the club believes that numbers should be limited to ensure members always have ample opportunity to get tee times when they want them.
In celebration of the new course opening the club is having a Grand Opening Day on June 30 with a Grand Ball in the evening. Other events are planned during the following week culminating in an 8-24 open competition on Friday, giving members from other clubs the opportunity to try out the new course under competition conditions.
It was sad that it rained all day when Bracken Ghyll ladies team played their B team match on the lovely course at Pannal. They lost 5-2 with Karen Lampkin and Gill Witherington being the two winners.
The Alternative day ladies won their home match 2-1 against Malton and Norton. The two winners were Gunilla Vriesendorp and Angela Moores.
Today, Thursday, the ladies are organising a hanging basket and patio tub making demonstration in the clubhouse at 7.30pm. Come and join us, everyone is welcome.
