On the hottest Sunday of the year most sections of Otley Cycle Club headed for Coxwold in the Easingwold area, for the Annual Cyclists Church Service in the Parish Church of Coxwold.
Under the steady gaze of the White Horse of Kilburn, the many cyclists were fed and watered in the village hall by the ladies of the Parish.
The Otley group's route to Coxwold was via Spofforth, Boroughbridge and Sessay. They returned via Easingwold, Alne, Aldwark Bridge, Green Hammerton, Cattal and Wetherby to make Otley for 80 miles.
In the first 12.5 mile evening time trial of the season took place in near ideal conditions, the results are: 1, James Cullen 29th 49s. 2, Jon Hobbs 29th 52s. 3, Nigel Brown 31-37. 4, Tim Howcroft 31-51. 5, Mike Gill 32-59. 6, Ian Stewart 33-31. 7, Peter Yates 34-22. 8, Ian Stewart 33-31. 9, Mike Smith 34-34. 10, Sheldon Howcroft 34-54. 11, A Smith 35-04.
In the Clifton CC open 50 mile TT held on the Walshford Course in a nagging east wind made a hard course even more difficult.
Otley riders times were, Gareth Metcalfe 1-50.40, Mike Shacklock 2-01.44, Tim Howcroft 2-08.36, Nigel Brown 2-13.37 (first handicap award), John Churchman 2-33.50.
The event was won by Joel Wainman (Peter Ried Racing Team 1-53.01
