Keighley's little-known scientific heritage is to be showcased.
Many of Britain's pioneers in the field of science from centuries ago had roots in the region.
Now that well secreted fact will be centrepiece of a two-day meeting at Cliffe Castle Museum in Keighley.
The event - sponsored by the Keighley branch of the Workers' Educational Association - is being organised by Arnold Pacey, a lecturer in the history of science with the Open University.
He told us: "I have known for a long time that there were a lot of pioneer scientists in this area, and I wanted to find some way of celebrating this fact while at the same time raising awareness.
"I am retiring in October after 25 years with the Open University, so now seemed a good time to celebrate the pioneers and my pending retirement!
"We have already had about 30 bookings for the meeting, so interest is quite strong."
The meeting - on June 30 and July 1 - will be addressed by two Oxford dons, Professor Robert Fox and Dr Charles Webster, who have made special studies of the subject.
Museum exhibits will be used to illustrate local work in science, and a coach will take delegates on visits to the former homes of two scientists.
The cost of the weekend will be around £25 per person, including a buffet on the Saturday and the coach trip. For further details and to book contact Howard Midgley on 01535 272341.
