England cadet international Stephen Denny produced a great performance to win his first men's singles title at the South Yorkshire Grand Prix.

He beat Shaun Marples from Derby in the finals of Class Three.

The 14-year-old lost in the last 16 of the open men's singles competition to Tom Cuttler from Essex who is ranked 30 in England

Denny, who attends the City of Bradford Junior Development Scheme coaching sessions, receives additional coaching at England training camps.

He has had an outstanding season in his own age group, winning the All England Grand Prix title.

He also won a silver medal in the National Ranking Tournament and help-ed Oakbank to a gold medal in the British Junior League.

Denny is the first player from the Junior Development Scheme to have been selected in one season for four major associations.

He has been called up by both the England cadet and schools teams as well as gaining recognition at junior and regional level.

There were several surprises in the Tens City Stars of tomorrow competition at the Girls Grammar School, Bradford.

Four previous winners of the tournament have gone on to play for England and there was talent in abundance this year as 20 teams fought it out in the under-tens and under-11s age groups.

Stanbury took a surprise gold in the under-tens first division with a team comprising Mary Fuller and Eathon Hassell.

The surprise Division Two winners were Eldwick's Chris Hardy and Lauren Denny.

Bradford Grammar were the top school with a gold and three silvers, followed by Lady Lane with a gold and two bronzes.
