SIR - This is in response to Dr Tom's advice in Just Relax! (T&A, May 15), "Don't turn your back on prostate problem."
It was nearly 18 months ago when I felt things were not going right with the system. It took nearly six months to get an appointment with the consultant and go through various tests to confirm that I had the prostate problem, and was placed on the waiting list for an operation.
I have been on the waiting list for nearly 12 months, hoping to receive an intimation of when the necessary treatment will be possible.
Unless the NHS has more resources, people can only suffer and wait and hope for the best.
How long it takes a benign prostate gland to turn into cancer or serious enough to cause more pain and discomfort, I can't say.
Maybe NHS authorities can offer some answers or remedy.

SIR - The words of "Mr Khan" (T&A, May 12) must be on the minds of many decent people of our city who are too scared to write or say them.
These youths have no respect for their families or other people. Their families need to speak up now before it is too late.
I was taught as a child to respect my elders and people's property. At 63 I still do this, as do my children and grandchildren.
I knew poverty and hunger but we didn't in those days think of how hard life was. We were grateful to have enough food.
The people who defend these yobs need to wake up and see them for what they are. There has been too much "softly, softly" treatment and race cards shown.
For the sake of decent people of all races in our city we need to tackle these rotten apples.
Catherine Alderson, St Margaret's Avenue, Holme Wood.
SIR - I agree with all that Mr Khan said on race relations. He should get a medal for his outstanding views.
Also people should put him up for the job as aide to Jack Straw and as head of the race relations board because he has stated what the majority of people think in this country.
It takes a young person like Mr Khan to sort it out.
J R Smith, Flawith Drive, Fagley.
SIR - Re the brave letter from "Mr Khan", condemning the "Asian yobs". Has he still got his windows?
These yobs are not frightened of any one. As Mr Khan said the police only get accused of racism.
What hope have the people of Bradford? We can only hope there are a few more Asians with the same opinion as Mr Khan.
Veronica Farnell, Market Street, Thornton.
SIR - In 1957, when I was nine years old, I came from Austria to live with my parents in Bradford.
At the age of 19 I went back to Austria to do my "National Service". After completing my time in the Air Force, I went on to theological training in Germany for the Ministry. I have been a Baptist Pastor since 1974.
It would be nice to get in touch with some of the "old" acquaintances from the time in Princeville Junior High, 1959-1963.

SIR - I am hoping you can help me pass on my sincere thanks to all the people who kindly helped when my mum collapsed in Etam.
Due to the stress of the situation I unfortunately didn't get any of their names but I want to send special thanks to the man who stayed with me and my mum throughout and also to the lady who looked after my daughters.
Also thanks to the three firemen who were luckily collecting in the area and also to Etam manageress and shop assistant. Apologies for bringing chaos to your shop!
My mum is still in hospital for tests but is recovering well. Many thanks.
D McCormack, Roy Road, Horton Bank Top, Bradford.
SIR - I can not let Jim Flood's letter pass without comment (T&A, May 15). I had always thought that it was under Sir Marcus Fox and the Conservatives that all initial preparation work for the Bingley Relief Road was done. Under them the canal was moved and the road bridge on Park Road was rebuilt, enabling the new road to be built.
There is no doubt that without the above work being carried out, this new road would never have been built.
Labour is only completing what the Conservatives started!
Paul Earland, Victoria Road, Saltaire.
