A MAGNIFICENT captain's display by Yeadon's Craig Thornton saw his side to a 74 runs win at Gomersal on Saturday. He hammered a superb 75 giving his side just the boost they needed after they had slumped to 55-4. He held the innings together as his side went on to make a more than respectable 173.
The tail end capitulated to Jeremy Batty, the former Bradford and Bingley spinner who had a spell with Somerset, who took 4-75 off 18 overs. His persistence was rewarded as he picked up the tail end wickets of Grant Soames, Jon Carey, Ahmed and Paul Hebden.
Gomersal reached 24 in reply but then lost three wickets before moving the score on with John Roper picking up two wickets and Thornton one.
Roper bowled a very tidy spell taking 4-32 off 18.3 overs and he is stepping into the boots of former Yeadon opener Peter Graham with his consistency.
Thornton completed a fine day individually and team wise when he picked up 4-25 off ten overs.
Gomersal, despite their big guns, could never get to grips with the Yeadon bowlers who were a model of consistency with Ahmed picking up 1-23 off 11 overs, Soames 0-10 off seven and Naeem Khan 0-8 off four.
Former Yorkshire batsman Bradley Parker made 14 before being stumped by Hebden off Thornton while Chris Schofield failed to trouble the scorers.
