Very much a Jeckyll and Hyde team this season, Otley Town's young first team have
at times produced solid performances against some excellent sides which have often included ex-professionals and players that are being paid.
The team has a good morale and if the club can keep these boys together, this season's experience should stand the team in good stead for next season and see them looking for success.
The final four games of the West Riding County Amateur League season saw Town ensure that they would be playing Premier Division Football again next season.
Town bounced back from a terrible performance at Stump Cross when they played Littletown twice in a week. First they travelled to Littletown and won 4-2. Richard Langhorn scored one and Damian Lee netted his first hat-trick for the club.
In the return fixture at home, Town could only manage a draw with Langhorn scoring again.
The visit to Fields saw another 1-1 draw with Lee again on the scoresheet, leaving Fields on the brink of relegation.
The final game of the season, away to Golcar last Saturday, saw Otley dominate in the first-half, with a good performance, only to concede three in the second- half.
Brighouse won the Premier Division, with Ovenden WR runners up. Fields AFC and Crag Road United were both eventually relegated.
Town's Reserves ended their season in the Harrogate League Premier Division with a mixed bag of results. Town's visit to near neighbours and at the time league leaders, Burley Trojans saw Steve Boddy spoil what chance the Burley team had of being champions.
A long trek to Northallerton presented the manager with selection problems and the team travelled with only 11 players. Danny Emsley and Steve Boddy were the scorers in a 3-2 defeat.
Boroughbridge were the visitors for Town's final game of the season and proved too strong on the day for the home team, winning 2-0.
In winning this game Boroughbridge went into their final game against Kirby Malzeard, which would turn out to be the championship decider.
Otley Town Reserves would once again like to thank Andy Moore from Moores Windows for his sponsorship.
Promoted Town win
two cups
Otley Town A completed their season with two cup final wins and promotion.
The Supplementary Cup Final saw a 3-1 win over Tockwith with Ross Hutchinson scoring one and Dominique Blair grabbing two.
Promotion was gained in the last league game of the season, with a dozen goals that could quite easily have been 20. Wolfenden, Barber and Gilmartin got one goal each; Firth and McCarthy got two and Blair rounded off his goal tally with five.
The A team's last game of the season was played at Darley in the Alverton Cup Final, where Town were up against Ripon City Magnets.
In a very physical game, which the referee found difficult at times, Town took the lead through Dale Gilmartin and shortly after, Ripon equalised. James Firth got the winner in the second-half of extra-time.
This has proved to be a very successful season for manager Martin Budden and his boys.
