Former England and Yorkshire captain Brian Close will open Buttershaw St Paul's £173,000 pavilion on Monday at 11am.

The pavilion, which will also be used by the community was partly funded by £141,000 of lottery grants through Sport England. The club paid £32,000.

It includes changing and shower rooms for players and umpires as well as a kitchen and tea room and gives Buttershaw some of the best facilities of any club in the Bradford district.

Vice president Alan Kilshaw, the project co-ordinator said: "We are delighted with the outcome and local resident regard it as superb. They feel it has enhanced the neighbourhood and it will be used by the community as well as the cricket club.

"Work started on January 8 with the anticipated completion date April 21, which was the start of the new season. It was a good achievement to get it ready in that length of time, bearing in mind the weather."

Labour candidate for Bradford South, Gerry Sutcliffe, MP for the area before the General Election was called, will be present at the opening with the club president Roy Moss. After the ceremony there will an under-17s tournament.

Buttershaw run three senior teams, two in the Bradford Central League and another in the Sunday School League playing at Horsfall playing fields.

They also run five junior sides at under-11s, under-12s, under-13s, under-15s and under-17s levels.
