The Dominican community in Bradford is gearing up for a day-long celebration of Caribbean culture.
The traditional festival, known as Fete Isdiore, will bring together three generations of Dominicans. It is a chance to share the cultural heritage which the elder folk brought with them when they came to England in the 1950s.
The celebration, next Saturday, is being supported by Bradford Council and voluntary agencies. It begins with a free event at the Carlisle Business Centre, Carlisle Road, Manningham, from noon until 5pm. His Excellency George Williams, the High Commissioner of Dominica, will be the guest speaker and there will also be comedy, drama, folk songs and food.
The festival continues at the Dominican Association Club, Worthington Street, Bradford, from 8pm. It will be informal, with dancing to the many styles of music enjoyed by the Dominicans, such as zouk, calypso, ragga, hip-hop and garage.
Bradford's Lord Mayor, Coun Ghazanfer Khaliq, said: "It is a great way for children to learn about the Dominican culture, while having a good time with family and friends."
Fete Isdiore is a workers' festival in Dominica. Fishermen dress up their boats and the community feasts.
