Bradford & Bingley shot out Undercliffe for a paltry 51 as they recorded their first Secure Trust Bank Bradford League Division One win of the season.

Their eight-wicket triumph was the most dramatic result on a day when Farsley leap-frogged East Bierley and took second place after beating them by five-wickets to record their fourth straight win.

Farsley are now six points behind leaders Pudsey Congs who were held to a draw by Hanging Heaton after posting the biggest score of the day of 268 for eight.

Paceman Richard McCarthy, whose return from a trip to Australia has revitalised Bradford & Bingley, was the man who put the skids under Undercliffe.

He took the first three wickets for only five runs on his way to a haul of four for 14.

Pakistan Test bowler Mohammed Akram, who took all ten wickets against Cleckheaton last week, was top scorer with a modest 16 not out.

Alex Stead took three for five in six overs. as Undercliffe capitulated and he followed up with a rapid 37 not out to steer Bingley to their target after they had lost their first two wickets with just four runs on the board.

East Bierley were made to pay dearly for a dramatic batting collapse which saw them lose their last eight wickets for 35 runs and slip from 107 for two to 142 all out against Farsley.

Only former Farsley batsman Richard Gould stood firm with a patient 63 as 16-year-old left arm spinner Neil Robinson took four wickets.

Farsley were never in trouble as they made measured progress towards their target.

In-form Yorkshire second team opener Chris Taylor set them on their way with 59 before he retired after taking a blow on his foot, but skipper Ashley Metcalfe with 45 not out and wicketkeeper John Goldthorp guided them home with 3.3 overs to spare.

Pudsey Congs recovered well after losing their first three wickets for 39 against Hanging Heaton.

Andy Bethel, Stuart Clifton and Barbar Butt were out cheaply, but James Middlebrook began the recovery with 37 before Neil Nicholson (56), captain Matthew Doidge (67) and Glen Roberts (38no) picked up the momentum to enable their side to post a formidable total.

Hanging Heaton were never in danger of defeat and closed on 215 for six with opener Steve Foster top scoring with 50 while Ishmail Dawood scored 48.

The league's record runs scorer Grant Lambert turned in a match winning performance with the ball as Spen Victoria beat near neighbours Gomersal in a tense match by 23 runs.

Spen's total of 156 for nine was under threat when Gomersal reached 100 for three but their later batting crumbled in the face of Lambert's lively spell of six for 49.

Next to the bottom Cleckheaton gained their first win of the season with a 75-run victory over Baildon.

The foundations for Cleckheaton's 184 for eight were laid in a fifth wicket stand of 68 between skipper Paul Booth (41) and Andy Yates (42no).

Baildon lost wickets at regular intervals and were all out for 109 with Booth and Adam Swallow each taking three wickets and Yates two.

Tariq Aziz played a match winning innings of 88 not out as Pudsey St Lawrence beat Yeadon by six wickets. Aziz shared an unbroken fifth stand of 92 with Yorkshire spinner Ian Fisher (42no).
