Former Bradford City striker Don Goodman is looking forward to one last crack at his old club after helping Walsall to a thrilling 3-2 win over Reading in yesterday's Division Two Play-Off final.
The much-travelled striker set the midland club on course for Division One and two matches with the Bantams last season by scoring the first goal at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.
Goodman, whose career has seen him play with Spanish club Castilla, Bradford City, West Brom, Sunderland, Wol-ves, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Barnsley and Motherwell before answering a late call to join Walsall's promotion push, admits that at 35 his career is drawing to a close.
But after yesterday's win he admitted: "I had planned to retire at the end of the season because I was led to believe that at the age of 35 I could get the pension I wanted.
"However I subsequently found out that wasn't so, so I completed my time at Mother-well and came to Walsall and now I want to carry on playing for another couple of years.
"I still feel as fit as a fiddle and I am half a stone lighter than when I was playing for Wolves. Winning promotion was a real thrill."
Goodman, who played 65 league games for the Bantams, cancelled out Read-ing striker Jamie Cureton's first-half opener with a fine strike at the start of the second half.
Walsall then looked to be on the ropes when Martin Butler's header put Reading ahead in extra-time, but the Saddlers had other ideas.
A freak own goal by Reading's Tony Rougier, who could do little as substitute Barry Hunter fired a clearance against him and saw it rebound in the net.
Within a minute Walsall substitute Darren Byfield sealed an amazing comeback with a 25-yard strike to give his side an unlikely victory. Blackpool won Saturday's Division Three Play-Off final by beating Leyton Orient 4-2.
