Bradford City will be £200,000 richer if Bolton Wanderers win the First Division play-off final at the Millennium Stadium this afternoon.
The Bantams automatically pocket a nice little earner as part of the loan deal with goalkeeper Matt Clarke.
But they are really banking on a Bolton victory over Preston at Cardiff to pave the way for a permanent deal for the transfer-listed stopper.
Bolton's first act as a Premiership side would be to sign Clarke for around £1.5m. But if they don't win this afternoon, then a deal with City will immediately founder because Sam Allardyce does not currently have the cash.
City boss Jim Jefferies said: "If Bolton do get promoted that will help our chances of arranging a deal.
"I'd expect them to be interested because by all accounts Matt has done well.
"I don't think Matt wants to come back here and some of the things he has been quoted as saying suggest that.
"He wants to play in the Premiership and if Bolton go up then there's a good chance we can discuss a possible transfer."
Clarke last appeared for City against Tottenham on Dec-ember 9. He was axed for the game at Newcastle and made a transfer request.
