A Bradford councillor has been suspended by his party following allegations about documentation for illegal immigrants.
The allegations came to light in a Sunday newspaper article about Undercliffe councillor Inkthab Alam, 26.
It was alleged that the Conservative councillor had offered to help arrange documents for illegal immigrants for a fee.
Today Bradford Council's Conservative leader Margaret Eaton said: "Clearly the Conservative group on Bradford Council is very concerned about allegations made against this member in the national press.
"As a result of that I intend that the member will be temporarily suspended from the group while investigations are made."
She said the issue did not just centre on Councillor Alam, as she had received cross-party representation linking the issue of false immigration to both major parties and had passed this information on to the Chief Executive on May 18.
Councillor Inkthab Alam (Con, Undercliffe) refused to speak to the Telegraph & Argus about the allegations.
