DESPITE at one stage looking across a flooded Aire Valley at a massive 200-plus backlog of games in the Craven & District Football League, strong co-operation between officials and clubs has brought the season to a satisfactory conclusion.
All promotion and relegation issues have been resolved by selective fixture making once the floods abated and while 10 matches were not played, none of these influenced the positions at the top or bottom of any league.
"We've had tremendous help from a vast majority of clubs and their officials in recent weeks to get important games played and I'd like to thank them for that," says league secretary, Peter Marsden.
"None of these lads are professionals and are often pressed into service, but they've done a great job working among themselves to get the outstanding games played without simply waiting for the league to tell them what needed to be done."
After one of the worst-hit situations for decades, officials like Mr Marsden and his committee colleagues can now draw breath and consider what sort of blueprint for next season they can put to the annual meeting at the Devonshire Hotel on May 30.
