A grieving father today issued a warning on the dangers of motorbikes - after his son died test-riding his brother's scooter.
The blue Peugeot 100cc scooter Christian Kavaliauskas, 21, of St Mary's Avenue, Wyke, was riding crashed into a lamppost on Towngate, Wyke, near the junction with Clare Road.
He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Mr Kavaliauskas says he has never liked motorbikes or scooters and warned others from using them.
"Avoid motorbikes whatever you do. I wouldn't have one given me. They're the most dangerous things on the road," he said.
"I warned both sons off bikes but it's like talking to a brick wall. You try to advise them, don't you?
"I'll try my best to make sure that my son Sean doesn't get another after what's happened."
The scooter belonged to Sean and Christian had taken the machine for a test run from his father's home.
"It was parked outside and he just jumped on it," said his father, Michael, 49.
"It's very hard to believe. We were talking to him one minute and five minutes later there's a telephone call and someone knocking on the door."
Mr Kavaliauskas rushed to the scene, but the ambulance had already left. He said: "I was scared going up there (Bradford Royal Infirmary). I hoped he was on life support but when they took me to this little room I knew.''
Christian, unemployed at the time of the accident, had previously worked at Hotpoint, Hipperholme.
Mr Kavaliauskas said: "I'm going to miss him. I thought the world of him. I'll miss him something shocking. I just wish he never went on that bike."
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened at 4.45pm on Tuesday, May 29, to telephone Bradford Central police on (01274) 374459.
