The Secretary of State for Defence visited Keighley on Tuesday.
Minister Geoff Hoon and Keighley's Labour candidate Ann Cryer visited Tonson Court sheltered accommodation.
They met residents and discussed the issues concerning elderly people.
Mr Hoon said: "We want to emphasise what Labour has achieved for elderly people in the course of four years."
He added: "We have helped pensioners through the winter fuel allowance and an increase in pensions.
"We must make sure we look at the discrepancies between private pensions and state pension schemes.
"The general reaction I have had from people today is that they believe that we have taken positive steps to help pensioners, but we will go on to try to do even more."
He then travelled to Shipley to meet Labour candidate Chris Leslie and local people.
From there, both Mr Leslie and Mr Hoon visited Filtronic for a tour of the factory that produces high-tech communication radar defence equipment.
The Anchor sheltered housing at Tonson Court is a retirement complex that was established in Keighley in 1985.
They have 28 single flats and 22 double flats available for the over 55s.
At the moment the residents range from between 60 to 99.
The flats are self-contained to give people their independence but there is a pull chord system for help.
There is a shared lounge, entertainment and outings.
