SHOT putter Emma Shaw completed her grand slam of regional titles when she carried off the North of England championship at Cudworth on Sunday, (writes Roger Ingham).
She has now won all five titles open to her in the region since August, including the Under 15 Inter-Counties Championship, the North of England Indoor Championship, the North East Regional Sports Hall Championships, the Yorkshire Championships and now the Northern title.
Shaw, from Moor Crescent, produced a winning throw of 10.40m at Cudworth, which was below her best, but still good enough to confirm her as the best in the North at her age-group.
She now looks ahead to the United Kingdom Championships later in the summer when she will bid to become the first Skipton AC member to win a medal at that level.
The club's previous highest finisher in that elite competition was Sarah Dugdale, who finished fourth in the Under 17 Girls' 3,000m in 1996.
While Shaw's performance at Cudworth completed an impressive sequence of successes, she was not the only local athlete to impress.
In the Under 20 Men's 2,000m steeplechase, Threshfield's Bingley Harrier, Oliver Brewer, and fellow Skipton AC member, Lee Athersmith, were fourth and ninth respectively.
The duo were the first two Yorkshire runners home and both posted personal best times. Brewer came home in 6:19:42, with Athersmith, a virtual newcomer to the event, posting 6:49:01.
