Bradford League newcomers Hollins Hall will make their first appearance in the Team Championship finals at Hawksworth in August after winning yesterday's qualifier at Bingley St Ives.

Dan Thomas, a 17-year-old junior who is also a member at Baildon, led the way with the joint second best round of the day on 72 as they finished just one shot clear of Ghyll.

Hollins Hall were only admitted to the Bradford Union last year and won promotion from the Fourth Division of the Scratch League in their first season. They have also won the 8-15 League team championship.

It was a great day for new Bradford Union team captain Andy Riley, whose 71 was the lowest score and helped his team Ghyll qualify in second place.

Thomas's 72 was backed up by 75 from Paul Stephenson, 77 from Greg Marsh and 84 from Tony Hirst to give Hollins Hall a winning total of 308.

Riley was joined by Andy Harling (78), Howard Tyrer (79) and Martin Robinson (81) for a 309 total with South Bradford on 312 and Bradford Moor on 313 completing the foursome who join the team championship line-up on Sunday, August 26.

Moor's captain Neil-Harker-Bell (74) and Martin Foster (73) were again their leading lights. South Bradford were boosted by Karl Curran's joint second best gross of the day of 72.

The four teams relegated from last year's team championship - Bradford, Rawdon, West Bradford and Skipton - all failed to make a quick return to the top event.
