The Rugby League are investigating allegations that Keighley Cougars winger Max Tomlinson was racially abused in last Wednesday's Trans-Pennine Cup final at Cougar Park.
It appears that the comments were made after a Leigh player - who the league refuse to name - was dragged into touch. Tomlinson reacted and was warned by the referee.
The Rugby League media and public affairs executive John Huxley said: "There has been a report of an alleged racial abuse and we are investigating it.
"We have called for a report from match officials and we are contacting the two clubs."
Keighley marketing manager Gary Murgatroyd said: "I saw the incident and I heard what people said to me, but with no collaborative evidence. However, Max said a player made a racial comment and he reported it to the touch judge.
"The Rugby League have been informed and they are investigating the incident. The Rugby League have a policy on race relations and they are anxious to pursue that policy.
"We support the policy of the Rugby League to stamp out racism in sport and, as such, we will co-operate fully."
