A genuine integrated transport policy - to meet the needs of all sectors of society and not primarily concerned with the interests of car and lorry users leaving everyone else to fend for themselves - is called for by a Bradford University lecturer. Commenting on points put forward by the chairman of the Yorkshire and Humberside Group, Dr. Verner Wheelock said it was implied that motorways were an important factor in attracting new industry to an area.

Mr A. V. Needler, of Hull, president of the National Union of Retail Confectioners, said at the annual conference at Southsea today that consumers and trade alike should proceed cautiously towards the derationing of sweets. Many people did not buy anything like six ounces a week, but thousands of others would want to buy more. So would children. Above all, some people were really hungry, not starving, for something different, and would probably turn to more chocolates and sweets.
