Four people were taken to hospital with stab wounds after a street fracas in Manningham last night.

West Yorkshire Police are investigating a disturbance in Grosvenor Road, believed to be a violent row between two families.

Around 50 officers were called out to reports of fighting in the street, involving about ten men. Three of the four injured men are still in hospital and two were undergoing surgery today.

A police spokesman said: "Police are investigating after being called to an incident in Grosvenor Road shortly after 11pm. There had been a phone call reporting someone trying to break into a house - there was some sort of dispute between residents.

"Four people were taken to hospital with minor knife wounds that were not life threatening. Three of these people are still in hospital."

One man, aged 20, has back injuries and is being detained for observation. A 24-year-old with ear injuries was due to have surgery today and another local man, with lacerations to his hands, was also having an operation.

A fourth patient - a 16-year-old youth - was released from hospital after treatment for cuts to his neck and hands, and was immediately arrested.

Police believe the fracas was between two families, one living in Grosvenor Road and the other in Manningham Lane.

One eye witness, who did not want to be named, said she heard a commotion at 11.30pm and saw a gang of men attacking another man who was lying on the floor.

She said: "They were all around him, kicking him.

"I rushed inside to phone the ambulance and when I came out the gang of men had run off.

"The boy they were attacking was left lying in the middle of the road."
