Harrogate international trials rider Graham Jarvis hit a high note in France, taking his first world trial victory for Bultaco and breaking a run for Dougie Lampkin and Radson Montesa at Troisfontaines.
While Jarvis collected a handy 20 points, Lampkin still amassed 17, while world challenger Takahisa Fujinami was down the order with just eight points.
On Sunday, Lampkin re-sumed his normal position at the top of the awards over Fujinami and David Cobos, clearing 17 tough sections without penalty.
Heavy overnight rain had transformed the French course and sections had to be modified on day one, but Lampkin dipped badly at the second section with a resounding failure while Fujinami stormed the seemingly impossible hill.
So it was down to the York-shireman to redress the balance with a spectacular attack on the ninth section - the only clear after Fujinami's heavy session of leg work to haul his Montesa up for two marks.
"I was poor at the second section, and had to ride out of my skin to cancel that bad ride," said Lampkin.
"I was pleased with the ride at the ninth and am now looking forward to Andorra next weekend, but the championship is not yet won."
Jarvis finished sixth on day two, but reclaimed fourth place in the title battle.
Lampkin's victory puts him well clear of the field with a margin of 55 championship points, and with two rounds to go he is only 25 points away from world title number five.
Shipley moto-cross rider Matthew Patrickson finished on the podium in the expert category at the York AMCA meeting at Wilberfoss after three tremendous races with Burnley's Arron Crowderand.
Ilkley's Peter Dickson and Otley's Graham Hepworth were third in their class in their Ford Escort, while club colleagues Nick Dobson and Jamie Forrest took ninth in class and an overall 12th at Beverley MC's Armstrong Massey special stage rally at Leconfield Driver Training Centre, near Beverley.
John and Chris Haygarth took fourth in John's elderly Opel Kadett GTE and were 14th in the overall results, scoring Larkspeed points for Airedale & Pennine MC.
Haworth garage owner Chris Leeming and co-driver Ray-mond Guy ran were 15th in the same class.
