In 1897, Bradford was granted City status.
In 1985, the Greenpeace ship "Rainbow Warrior" was sunk in Auckland harbour after two explosions. One man died.

More shoppers than Bradford's Arndale Centre has seen for a long time poured in today for the start of the ultra-modern precinct's seven-day shopping spectacular. They were there to see the Lord Mayor, Coun. Frank Hillam, open the fountain collection in aid of his appeal to fight cancer.

C.I.D. officers in Bradford are investigating the circumstances in which a double-deck bus was driven away from a garage. The incident was the second within four days in which a bus had been taken away. The bus was found with part of the top deck ripped away after hitting a low bridge in Ludlam Street, near Manchester Road. The driver had abandoned it.
