A Bingley artist whose close relatives have heart problems is backing a major hospital appeal for new cardiac equipment.

Jane Fielder will be exhibiting and selling her work at Bradford Royal Infirmary's Field House Gallery and a quarter of the proceeds will go towards the Heartbeat Appeal.

Organisers hope to raise cash towards a £150,000 appeal for an ultra-sound scanner for the BRI. Jane, 52, of Bromley Road, said: "My father, who has heart problems, celebrated his 80th birthday recently and it's all because of the care and attention he received.

"My father-in-law has also had a couple of heart attacks and I used to work with people with disabilities and quite a few of them had heart problems.

"It's something that affects a lot of people in one way or another and it would be wonderful to help raise money for the appeal."

Jane, a former teacher, who was commended in the Derbyshire art show this year, will be showing her Janescapes - horizontal urban landscapes.

"A lot of people seem to put Bingley down but I think it's beautiful and this is what I've tried to capture in my work," she said.

"I love the mill chimneys, the roof tops, the Bradford and Bingley Building Society building and Five Rise Locks - there's so much to paint in Bingley."

Jane has developed her own trademark bras in her paintings to add colour to her work.

"I include the colourful washing lines to lift my paintings and the bright red bras add a bit of human contact," said the mother of three.

Jane will also be showing her Encounter series for the first time.

The paintings depict the multicultural diversity of Bradford and the rich colours of saris and headscarves.

Her work will be on display from Monday July 16 until August 10. The gallery will be open on weekdays from 10am to 4pm.

Admission is free.
