Mystery was maintained until the end of a tour organised by British Rail from Bradford. Customers who booked for the outing soon discovered Whitby was the destination and enjoyed themselves in the east coast sunshine. But there was an unexpected surprise on the way back for passengers wanting to get off at New Pudsey. The train kept on going to Bradford. Passengers were brought back to Pudsey by the next train.

Bradford's population is now 292,394, a drop of 6,298 since 1931, according to the first report on the 1951 census, issued today by H.M. Stationery Office for the Registrar General.
At the 1931 census, the city's population was 298,692. Shipley's population has increased by more than 2,000, for instance, Bingley's by more than 1,000, Baildon's by more than 2,000 and Pudsey's by 5,700.
