A man may have been stabbed to death during a drinking party to celebrate his birthday, neighbours said today.
Lee Ian Ryan, 24, died at a house in Parkway, West Bowling, on Monday evening.
Detectives are still hunting the murder suspect, who was seen running from the scene covered in blood.
A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: "There was a group of people at the house drinking. Apparently it was the young man's 24th birthday yesterday and maybe they were celebrating."
Another neighbour said a couple and four children lived at the house. Police have described the incident as a "domestic-type" attack and stressed it was unrelated to other disturbances in the city.
A post-mortem examination showed the cause of death was consistent with puncturing to the upper body.
A 37-year-old man, who is known to police, is being sought in connection with the killing.
He is described as white, of slim build, 5ft 3in to 4in, with dark, receding hair and a moustache and sometimes a partial beard.
He was wearing a light blue T-shirt and jeans and has tattoos on both arms.
Detective Superintendent Bob Bridgestock said: "I am appealing for this man to come forward and if he has been in touch with you or you know where he is please get in touch with the police and let us know."
