Suzanne Hartley reviews The Upstagers Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at The Kings Hall until July 14.
One word can be used to describe Ilkley upstagers latest production - FANTASTIC!
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is currently running at the Kings Hall Ilkley, until July 14.
The Story itself stays true to the MGM film of the same name and follows the fortunes and courtship of seven roughneck brothers to seven local girls.
The sets are most impressive and are changed quickly to help the smooth running of the performance.
Costumes are bright and colourful and the cast make regular changes at breathtaking speed. It isn't often you get to see six good-looking guys in their underwear!
The dance routines have been expertly choreographed to exhibit the nimble skills of the talented players. The 'Social Dance' where the brothers challenge local suitors for the bride's affections worked particularly well.
Congratulations must go to the principal characters of Adam and Milly (Richard Lloyd and Laura Judge) for the clarity of their singing and acting. All the cast were brilliant but I feel a special mention must go to Tom Kyle for bringing out the comic and sensitive personality of youngest brother Gideon.
All in all, if you're looking for an enjoyable evening's entertainment, I thoroughly recommend you catch this performance.
Tickets, priced from £6 - £7.50, can be obtained from Upstagers Barn centre (located behind the Midland Hotel, Station Road, Ilkley) or by calling 01943 607944.
