Pudsey Congs created a new aggregate total Torpedo League record with a blistering 229-4 against a bewildered Yeadon attack which had to rely to a large extent on second team and junior players against the star-studded home batsmen.

Signs of a big total were evident very early in Pudsey's innings with left handers Neil Nicholson and Glen Roberts setting the early pace. Roberts departed with the Congs on 105-1 after only ten overs. Nicholson and Matthew Doidge were both in good hitting mode. Doidge departed with 41 blitzed runs in what seemed like a couple of overs only to be replaced by the even harder hitting of Najeed who proceeded to lose several balls in nearby gardens, roof tops, and it was rumoured, down a chimney somewhere in Bradford as he made 52,

With Nicholson almost matching run for run the two pressed on after Doidge's departure at 126 to destroy most of Yeadon's bowling. When Congs' third wicket fell, Yeadon then had the doubtful privilege of enduring a further mini-blitz when Barbar Butt marched to the crease. Another 15 runs crashed from Congs' last over left the home side on a daunting 229-4 Nicholson finishing with 44.

To their credit, Yeadon set about an almost impossible task with more batting fireworks of their own, led largely by Naeem Khan who probably fancied getting the 11.5 runs an over target all by himself. Khan took everything bowled at him by the scruff of the neck and launched into an assault greeting Doidge with a huge six and everybody else the same way. In hammering over 80 runs from their last eight overs the visitors gave the spectators another hitting display, Khan moving to an exciting 102 not out out in a final 165-4.
