An Oakworth woman has been honoured for her community work.
Janet Armstrong was presented with a crystal vase by Jean Brockbank, president of Soroptomist International of Keighley, at the organisation's annual dinner. The Soroptomists, a professional women's organisation, which aims to improve working conditions and human rights worldwide, honoured Mrs Armstrong for her role in Oakworth village life.
She works at the post office and newsagents, annually produces the village pantomime, is a member of the Village Society and organises the summer gala.
Mrs Armstrong also finds time to be the unit Guider of the 1st Oakworth Rainbows and 3rd Oakworth Brownies, and is assistant unit Guider of the 2nd Oakworth Guide Company.
Soroptimists from Airebor-ough, Bingley, Bradford, Colne and Nelson, Hull, Ilkley and Skipton attended the dinner at The Three Sisters Hotel, in Haworth. Elizabeth Hughes -- liaison officer for programme action for Soroptimist International of Great Britain and Ireland -- was guest speaker.
