From next month, most shops in the Bradford Metropolitan district will be able to open for six full days a week - Monday to Saturday - if they wish. The Metropolitan Council has made an order for this under the Shops Act, following the ballot of shopkeepers in all districts except those in the former Bradford city area, which already has six-day opening.

The Bradford trade is disturbed by the news that the proposed draft peace treaty with Japan contains no mention of protecting Allied trade marks. A spokesman of the National Wool Textiles Exports Corporation, in Bradford said:
"Few cloth people use trade marks, but we don't like Japanese firms palming off their wool cloth with bogus trade marks intended to indicate that it is made in England."
