Mohammed Ajaib,

chief administrator for Emily Street mosque

"From what I've heard Lord Ouseley has painted a good picture of what he saw on the ground. I just hope this report is not looked at then brushed aside.

"If the recommendations are implemented then we'll see the change, but if it's treated as just another report it will be a sad day.

"We need a lot of change in Keighley and Bradford and we need to listen to people on the ground."

Martin Leathley,

Keighley councillor

"When we were talking about making things more local through a Town Council, we had just as much support when we went to areas where Asian people live.

"The aspirations of decent Asian families are just the same as the indigenous population - they want decent jobs and homes.

"A minority of young Asian men are becoming more involved in crime. It must be stopped by proper policing. There's a real problem that only the Asian community can address."

Khadim Hussain,

manager of Sangat Community Centre

"The report has not told anything we didn't already know, but it highlighted points. We can have a conclusive and comprehensive dialogue in the whole district.

"The major issue in Keighley is segregation - there are even communities within communities, such as Bangladeshis and Pakistanis."

Charlie Bhowmick, long-time campaigner for racial harmony

"Race relations is our future in this county. We want to live together in harmony and friendship.

"People have to be genuinely keen to share each other's feelings and go forward with stability.

"Feeling fragile and frightened is not the life that people want to live in this world. We have to feel that we are all one."

Lynne Joyce,

Keighley councillor

"I think there are very important lessons to be learned. We have to get every part of the community involved.

"Every area with a clear identity, such as Keighley, has to get people together to analyse the report and listen to each other. The report has a selection of good examples, projects to build on. We have good things to work on, but it must be together."

Andrew Mallinson,

Keighley councillor

"Keighley's diverse cultural mix has brought together a large range of activities aimed at integrating our society.

"With Keighley there's so much happening in the heart of town. I think it helps bring people together.

"It's something we must build on. I encourage everyone to explore each other's religion and seek to better understand the different cultures.

Barry Thorne,

Keighley councillor

"Because of the way things have gone with the education acts, it's led to kids not being very well-mixed. If people grow up together, they tend to like each other.

"The vast majority of parents bring their children up to be thoughtful, respectful and good citizens.

"Where things go wrong it's because of what society, parents and other influential people do to their kids."
