Ten-year-old Riddlesden girl Jordan Pretty swam 100 lengths of the swimming pool at Keighley Leisure Centre as part of a sponsored swim to raise money for Breast Cancer research.
Jo, a pupil of St Mary's School, Riddlesden, is giving up her free time to swim 6,000 metres in a month in a bid to help combat this disease, which her favourite aunt has battled twice.
She got special permission from the leisure centre to swim during the women's only session, to ensure the pool wasn't too crowded for her.
Staff and fellow swimmers were amazed as the diminutive swimmer, who had never managed more than 36 lengths before, passed the target of a mile she had set for the evening and still kept on swimming.
Jo said: "I could have kept going but it was past my bed time and I had to get my costume dry to go swimming with school in the morning."
Jo's efforts have made around £75 so far and she intends to carry on and raise as much as possible. Anyone interested in sponsoring Jo can contact her mother Alison on 01535 212988.
