The long-awaited report into why the community in the Bradford Metropolitan area is fragmented along social, cultural, ethnic and religious lines thankfully pulls no punches.
Lord Ouseley promised a warts and all approach, and the Race Review team has most certainly done just that.
In many ways it confirms what many people already knew - but were afraid to say - mainly because they were fearful of being branded racist. That applies across all ethnic groups.
The fear of crime is highlighted - no matter how many times the figures show this town is nowhere near as bad as some would have it, the fear remains and increases.
Another example is the fear of confronting the gang culture, the illegal drugs trade and the growing racial intolerance, harassment and abuse that exists.
It makes bleak reading - but the report is interspersed with the positive aspects of our multi-cultural community. For example, the Keighley Asian Women and Children's Centre which places a high value on children being aware of the multi-cultural community in which they will grow up. It is run by multi-cultural staff.
The review found the most inspiring aspect was the desire among young people for better education, more social and cultural interaction and commitment to contribute and achieve personal success. From letters we receive we know this to be the case.
There are no easy answers to these problems. But what needs to be done is for all and sundry to grasp the nettle, take ownership of the suggestions and act positively on them.
Our chosen letter of the week says most of it. The writer's conclusion is worthy of repeating.
We have all gone into a new millennium, but we are still dragging the old ways with us. Come on people, start thinking
