Bradford has dominated the news for all the wrong reasons this week. Although, amid the harsh truths, there was much to be positive about in Lord Ouseley's Race Review - and some clear pointers for a brighter future for the district - good news headlines have been hard to find, especially in the national media.
So the decision to press ahead with Bradford Bulls' rugby league match against Castleford at Valley Parade tomorrow, is a welcome one.
Above all, it is a valuable opportunity to show the world that the riots of last weekend have nothing to do with normal life in Bradford.
The Bulls were rightly commended in Lord Ouseley's report into race relations for their community work. For the match tomorrow, they have distributed more than 3,000 free tickets to schoolchildren from communities across Bradford.
Civic and community leaders will be in the stands to cheer on the Bulls - and to help the city look forward.
Sport and leisure can be unifying forces which everyone can get behind, no matter what their colour or creed, and they are gifts which are in abundance in Bradford. A good turnout tomorrow will be a sign to the world that the people of this district are not willing to let the criminal activities of a hard core of thugs and vandals spoil our desire to be a guiding light for good race relations everywhere.
The Bulls expect to get their one-millionth supporter through the turnstiles in time for tomorrow's game. Let's make sure that whoever that person is, they're proud to be a Bradfordian.
