A campaign for peace in Bradford is to be launched by residents who have condemned the rioting.
Bradford people have joined forces to promote the success stories in the district and distance themselves from the acts of violence over the past week.
Yasmin Hussain, 35, of Heaton, said she felt it was important during a time of negative images to highlight the good relationships within the district.
"People feel so passionately about the place and the campaign is about trying to convey a different reality of Bradford to what people are seeing at the minute," she said.
"We want to demonstrate to people nationally and locally the number of success stories in the area and alienate ourselves from the violence and acts of vandalism.
"But we are still in the very early stages and need as much support as possible from other people living here."
The plan is to form an organisation which, with funding and help from public bodies, would set up events showing the district in a positive light.
These would include festivals, award ceremonies and other events.
"There are a lot of people who are willing to put a lot of time and energy into making this campaign a success," said Yasmin.
"I hope many more will see it as a worthy cause and come forward to help."
