Olympic bronze medallist Jon Clay has been back to school as part of an exciting bid to find future champions.
Clay, part of the development programme of the British Cycling Federation, paid a visit to Menston St Mary's School, where he met up with young cyclists.
The initiative forms part of the British Cycling Federation's World Class Start and Potential programmes to identify future Olympic and World medallists.
Central to the programme is a school cycling programme called Cycling Search.
The BCF are looking to establish cycling as a school sport.
The talent identification scheme takes the form of drag-strip racing to identify sprint performers and racing over three minutes to identify endurance performers.
It is envisaged that 40,000 a year will be involved in the Cycling Search programme in schools by 2005.
David Geldart, director of PE & sport at St Mary's, said: "This is a tremendous initiative, the British Cycling Federation are keen to build on their Olympic success and are proactive in promoting the sport to young people.
"In this country we have not always been good at finding talent, let alone develop it, so this initiative deserves every success."
