Most of Britain's oil companies are expected to put up their petrol prices following Esso's increases. The rises, which meant 80p a gallon for petrol in many parts of Britain from midnight last night, include many Esso products including diesel and industrial oils.

A nod of the head followed by three taps of the auctioneer's gavel, and a family's 70 year-old association with a widely-known Bingley hostelry was broken yesterday. The nod signifying a bid of £13,000 came from a representative of Joshua Tetley and Son Ltd., the Leeds brewers to whom the hotel - the picturesque Glen Hotel at Gilstead - was sold.
Advancing years of the owner, Mrs. M. Booth have caused her to put the hotel on the market.
