A Bradford man has today been praised for his heroic efforts in rescuing a group of women pensioners from their flats amid the violent disturbances in Manningham.
Tariq Mahmood, 31, gave six petrified neighbours in their 80s shelter in his Whetley Close home during the Saturday night clashes, and partner Jinnette, who is eight months pregnant with their third child, gave up her bed for one of them.
Mr Mahmood was honoured at City Hall by Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Ghazanfer Khaliq who said: "He has shown that, in midst of all the terrible things that have happened in Bradford, there are selfless people out there willing to help others."
