ASPIRING Olympic medallist Lee McCash gave a progress report to his sponsors at Barnoldswick and Earby Round Table, and there was some excellent news.
Track and cross-country runner Lee, of Barnoldswick, has just had confirmation of a prized sports scholarship at the elite St Mary's College, in London.
It follows a successful year at Bath Sports College, which the former West Craven High School pupil was able to attend thanks to cash backing from the Round Table.
On Monday he attended one of the Tablers' meetings to update members on his progress and the news about his latest scholarship.
St Mary's College is renowned in the sports world as a centre of excellence with state-of-the-art sports science facilities, back-up and coaching.
It only awards a handful of scholarships each year, but Lee caught the college's eye with his performance throughout the past year while at Bath.
"I was only able to go to Bath because of the financial support from Barnoldswick and Earby Round Table," said Lee.
"without being there I would not have improved as much or have been spotted by St Mary's, so without their help I would not now have this tremendous opportunity.
"While at St Mary's I will be training with other international athletes. This can only improve my times even more," said Lee, who has already knocked 19 seconds off his personal best time for the 5,000 metres.
Nick Kemp, chairman of Barnoldswick and Earby Round Table, commented: "To see Lee do so well and get this opportunity makes us all very proud.
"The Round Table works hard putting on events like the gala and it is very gratifying to see Lee make the most of this support and his unique talent."
