The weather did its best to spoil the highlight of the Airedale Junior Cricket League season when Otley CC hosted the Denison Cup final on Sunday.
Denison Cup holders Otley played host to Guiseley who had not won the cup in ten years. The last of their previous seven trophy wins came in 1991.
Guiseley scored a modest 100 and failed to ensure that all their allocated 40 overs were used.
Only Warwick Oakes looked comfortable and he remained unbeaten on 47.
James Davies, the Joe Lumb team skipper, took 4-36 for Otley.
When Otley batted they lost wickets at regular intervals and were particularly vulnerable to the varied pace and spin of Chis Wain.
The Otley lad finished with a match winning performance of 7-12 off eight overs as Otley were dismissed for 79.
Umpires Parry Brooksbank and Ray Beadle deserve a special mention for ensuring that play was maintained whenever possible and got damp for their efforts.
Guiseley 100 ( W Oakes 47no, C Thompson 18, J Davies 4-36, T Coneeley 2-14, E Sutherland 2-14); *Otley 79 (D Conneely 27, E Sutherland 20, C Wain 7-12, W Oakes 2-19). Guiseley won by 21 runs.
