The family of a Bradford man who perished in the Lake District has told of how his premature death has left a 'huge hole' in their lives.

Nadim Rashid's body was found in the Thirlmere reservoir in the Lake District on Tuesday.

Today his family spoke of their devastation at his death.

His sister, Rukhsana Rashid, 34, said: "It has yet to sink in what we have lost. He was a great man, the life and soul of the party."

His 12-year-old daughter, Nadia, said she was the last person to speak to her father on Sunday morning before he set off on the camping trip with friends.

"He said that he loved me as he always did, he was the best dad, really kind and caring."

Nadia's mother, Susan, also expressed her sadness.

"It wasn't a party without Nadim, he was full of life but he was also a very caring father and family always came first."

Nadim's first cousin, Anwar Musa, who has returned from Cumbria with Nadim's father, Ahmed Rashid and other male relatives, said: "We are still in a state of shock, it hasn't hit us yet. Nadim was a tremendous brother and a great friend. We just can't describe how we are going to miss him."

Nadim, 32, who worked as a machine operator at St Ive's, Laisterdyke, often went camping with friends.

His younger sister Rehana said: "Wherever the action was, that's where Nadim was. He liked to have a laugh but he cared about his family more than anything. They were his anchor."

More than 400 people a day having been paying tributes at Nadim's home in Bradford Moor and the family has been holding prayers in their home and at the mosque.

Rehana said: "He was well known in the community and we've had a lot of people coming and expressing their sorrow."

Many more at expected at the funeral to be held today. But the family, who are originally from Kenya, were full of praise for Cumbrian police and residents who pitched in to help when Nadim was reported missing.

Mr Musa said: "Everyone has been so helpful and kind. When we went to Cumbria there were local people who were helping to search for Nadim.

"The Cumbrian police were fantastic keeping us informed about everything and the divers worked really fast. We have had a lot of support and we are really grateful for that."
